About
Emahni Sewell is a multi-media Visual Artist / Writer based in Portland, OR.
Her work is shaped by her spiritual studies, the natural world, and a deep curiosity about the unseen threads that connect us. Through her art, she explores themes of femininity, devotion, emotional metamorphosis, and erotic tenderness.
Her practice is meditative and delves into transcendental and abstractive explorations of emotional landscapes.
I am curious about the sociological impacts of living in a quickly advancing modern world, and the ways this shapes our intimate relationships with one another. I am passionate about staying passionate. It is an act of resistance to feel, to intentionally find tenderness for one another, as well as ourselves. To shine light on the most human parts of our existence, and encourage a future where we continue to value the process of becoming and creating.
So much of my current practice is a practice in uncovering my own creative archives and revealing what lies within. I return often to symbols from childhood, such as a butterfly scribbled over and over in my childhood notebooks. To me the entire story is in the metamorphosis, and that has never changed.
Happy we are here together.
